Pain may or may not involve swelling, may be on one side of your knee or the other, or may be all over your knee. Often the doctor will recommend an MRI to properly diagnose you, and specialists may or may not recommend surgery. Clearly something structurally damaged, such as the knee was badly damaged and sank, requires surgery and cannot be treated with acupuncture. However, even in this case acupuncture can help the healing process after surgery, and helps to ensure that your knee heal properly.

In TCM, the pain in your knee is classified as one of the various types of possible obstruction syndrome pain in your body. Furthermore, the pain in your knee will be an indication of one of three different TCM pattern: kidney deficiency, qi and blood stagnation, or invasion of external pathogens.
